From your campsite pitch or rental accommodation by the Saône, you can reach the town centre, marina, shops and the main tourist attractions of the Val de Saône within just a few minutes.

Auxonne, a historic town full of character

Formerly a border town between Burgundy and Franche-Comté, Auxonne captivates visitors with its authentic character and remarkable military heritage.

As you stroll through its narrow streets, you will discover:
  • The Château Louis XI, a fortress built at the end of the 15th century.
  • The Artillery Arsenal, a reminder of the town’s military past.
  • The Porte Royale, the majestic entrance to the former fortifications.
  • The Church of Notre-Dame, a remarkable example of Burgundian Gothic architecture.
Auxonne is also linked to the history of Napoleon Bonaparte, who stayed here as a young lieutenant at the artillery school. A statue and a themed walking route allow visitors to follow in his footsteps through the town.

Half-timbered houses, lively squares, the covered market hall, the Saône quays… everything invites you to explore and enjoy a vibrant town on a human scale, lively in every season.

The Saône and waterside activities

The Saône River is an integral part of the identity of both the campsite and the region.

From Camping de l’Arquebuse, you can quickly reach the marina, landscaped riverbanks and walking paths along the water.

Depending on your preferences, you can:
  • Enjoy canoeing or sailing with the nautical clubs of Auxonne.
  • Take a peaceful stroll along the quays at sunrise or sunset.
  • Board a guided river cruise on the excursion boat Le Vagabondo in Saint-Jean-de-Losne to discover the
  • wildlife, flora and landscapes of the Val de Saône.
Fishing enthusiasts will find an ideal setting here: second-category waters, numerous fish species and easy access from the riverbanks and diversion canals.

Walking and cycling around the Val de Saône

Around the campsite, numerous routes allow you to fully enjoy the surrounding nature.

The Étangs de la Saône circuit offers a beautiful loop of around fifteen kilometres through forests, wetlands and hedged countryside landscapes. Ideal for birdwatching, admiring the châteaux along the way and enjoying fresh air with the family.

Cycling enthusiasts can follow the Voie Bleue, a developed route along the Saône.

From Auxonne, you can easily reach Saint-Jean-de-Losne or Talmay via safe, dedicated paths, dotted with viewpoints, picnic areas and pleasant stopping points.

Whether you are an occasional walker or an experienced cyclist, the Val de Saône offers routes accessible to all, directly from the campsite or just a few minutes away by car.

Vineyards, wines and art cities less than one hour from the campsite

Staying at Camping de l’Arquebuse also gives you the opportunity to discover the major towns of Burgundy and their renowned vineyards:
